ABOUT FIELD DAY
The Minnesota Turf and Grounds Foundation and the University of Minnesota annual Field Day provides turf and grounds professionals an opportunity to learn about new research being conducted at the Turfgrass Research, Outreach and Education (TROE) Center and the TRE Nursery. Leading researchers will demonstrate their projects and how they directly benefit green industries.
TURFGRASS RESEARCH, OUTREACH AND EDUCATION (TROE) CENTER
The TROE Center allows University of Minnesota researchers to study current issues facing the Minnesota turfgrass practitioner. Areas of research include:
- environmental fate of nutrients and pesticides
- turfgrass breeding and genetics
- water conservation
- low input sustainable turfgrass management
TRE NURSERY
The TRE nursery is a center for tree and shrub production and landscape research at the University of Minnesota. This Center is run by Gary Johnson, Jeff Gillman, Chad Giblin and others. Areas which are being studied include:
- the effects of high mulching on trees
- elm variety trials for Minnesota
- best elm pruning techniques
- effective use of Missouri gravel beds
- stem protection techniques
- and many more
EXHIBITS
Field Day also includes exhibits. Suppliers to the green industries will be on hand to demonstrate and discuss the latest products and services available to those who manage landscaped green areas. Typical exhibitors include:
- nurseries
- lawn care providers
- tree care providers
- and others who want to network with turf and grounds managers
