The University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS)

CFANS is a college devoted to the study of both healthy land and healthy living in the state of Minnesota. It strives to improve our economy, foster job creation, strengthen our agricultural and natural resource-based industries and enhance the social fabric of communities.

CFANS recognizes the vital role turfgrass plays in resolvingmany of the environmental and social issues in the state of Minnesota, and in 2002 it demonstrated its commitment to turfgrass research by providing 12 acres of land for the TROE Center.

Turfgrass Reaearch, Outreach and Education (TROE) CEenter

The TROE Center allows University of Minnesota researchers to study current issues facing the Minnesota turfgrass practitioner. Areas of research include:

  • environmental fate of nutrients and pesticides
  • turfgrass breeding and genetics
  • water conservation
  • low input sustainable turfgrassmanagement

In addition, the TROE Center allows researchers to collaborate with other scientists from around the country on national and international research projects.
